Vienna Baptist Church ~ Many Years of Blessings

Vienna Baptist Church has its beginning October 10, 1924, with 13 charter members. These 13 and the 24 who joined them over the next 60 days were mission-minded Baptists with evangelical hearts. Beginning in a rented hall they moved quickly to provide their own facilities for worship. The first sanctuary was located on 31st Street and Sixth Avenue. Within a generation they had outgrown the original site and on August 1, 1951 the congregation broke ground for a new sanctuary and educational building at 34th Street and Grand Central Avenue. The educational wing was expanded significantly in 1962.

After more than 55 years of waiting, the bell tower of Vienna Baptist Church has finally been crowned with a steeple. It stands as a tribute to those founding members who felt called to officially start a Baptist church in Vienna in October of 1924. It stands in honor of all the families who have served God faithfully under that charter for 84 years, at this location for the past 55 years. It stands, capped with a cross, as a reminder of our source of life and hope in Christ. It stands as a marker to our community that we are here as ambassadors of the King of Kings.

Re-dedication of VBC

Rededication

On Monday morning, October 27th, I was standing in the 34th Street parking lot talking to Ed Wendelken as we watched the men preparing to lift our new steeple into place. “I remember when we built this church. Back then they said, ‘There will come a day when we put a steeple on top of the bell tower…’ and today is that day…” he said with a smile.

On Sunday, November 2, 2008 we celebrated this special time in the life and history of Vienna Baptist Church. We had a time of “re-dedication” in which we recommitted ourselves and the use of our facility to the advancement of God’s kingdom, moving forward together in faith.
